Mai's Guest Lodge ~ lots to do

After breakfast, Mai's Guest Lodge offers space to simply laze the day away, or you might want to venture forth on a walk around the village. Mai can also recommend day drives with spectacular scenery.

The swimming pool in its sheltered courtyard

The sun shines nearly every day of the year and even in winter you might enjoy a dip in the sparkling pool in its sheltered courtyard.

You can watch the world go by from the front verandah, or the cosy lounge.

Prince Albert has a multitude of delights to entertain you:

Just the place to enjoy a good book...

Massage treatments, reiki and facials are available.

Local and world acclaimed artists exhibit their work at the Art Gallery. Next door you'll find the 1918 cinema, housing Kevin's scrap metal sculptures, like the one in Mai's front garden.

Local art with a difference...

The True Karoo Gallery Shop is a treasure trove of local crafts and collectables just five minutes from Mai's Guest Lodge.

In the evenings the Story Weaver, Ailsa Tudhope, entertains visitors as she relates tales about local characters and ghosts on her Ghost Walk, or tells stories over a pre-dinner drink.

Once it is dark Astrotours can provide a fascinating glimpse into the crystal clear night skies.

A lighthearted walk with the ghosts of Prince Albert

The Fransie Pienaar Museum is recognised as one of the best local museums in the country.  At Wolskuur Weavery you can watch mohair rugs and cotton runners being woven. The SoetKaroo cellar is across the road from Mai's - here you can taste dessert wines from the second smallest registered wine estate in the country.

Gay's Dairy produces prize-winning cheese

A visit to Gay's Dairy is a must. The team produce cheeses that have won awards in South Africa and abroad.

The local Olive Farm and fig farms welcome visitors and there are hiking trails and 4x4 drives for guests who favour adventure activities. The Swartberg Mountains and the world famous Swartberg Pass lie behind the village.

Mai can advise you on day trips to explore the district. She can also recommend coffee shops for teas and light lunches.

Enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants where you can sample authentic Karoo fare.
